Can't pick cabinet boards? Here's the answer. After reading it, I'll make you "clear the door"

How to choose the boards for making cabinets?

Taking a look at the building materials market, not only did we not have a clear understanding of it, but it is possible that just the name of a single type of board can confuse you. So, what are the main aspects we focus on when selecting boards, and can we clarify these curved paths?

Today, we will use the simplest and most vivid way to popularize various types of boards to everyone. After reading them, it will definitely make you "clear".

1、 Bun like board

Baozi is generally composed of "filling+skin", while most of the boards we refer to are composed of "base material (core material)+decoration".

Among them, the naming of boards is generally determined by the characteristics of the substrate (core material), and regardless of the number of names available on the market, there are mainly five types of commonly used boards: density board, solid wood particle board, multi-layer board, European pine board, and ecological board (paint free board). Just remember the names of these five types of boards and what their respective substrates (core material) look like.

2、 What does the substrate look like?

1. Density board

It can also be called "density fiberboard" because its main raw materials are "powdered wood fibers and plant fibers", which are then added with glue and pressed into a board in a high-pressure and high-temperature environment.

The powdery fibers give density boards a smooth and delicate surface, and are easy to machine into various shapes, often used for making cabinet doors; But it also caused the problem of poor nail grip and bearing capacity, so it is generally used for the production of cabinet doors and is not recommended as a board for the cabinet body.

2. Solid wood particle board

The raw material of solid wood particle board (particle board) is "wood chips of a certain size". Compared with the density board, its raw material particles are larger, and the cross and scattered structure between particles not only increases the toughness of the board, but also makes it more excellent in bending and deformation resistance. It is not easy to break and can bear weight.

At present, using solid wood particle board as the cabinet body is the most common in customized cabinets throughout the house, which is easy to cut and seal while also better controlling costs.

3. Multilayer board

There are many names for multi-layer boards, such as plywood, plywood, nine-centimeter board, multi-layer solid wood board, etc. It is a three-layer or multi-layer board made of a certain thickness of wood chips glued with adhesive.

In addition, the structure of the multi-layer board is more compact, making its load-bearing capacity and pressure resistance higher than that of the "solid wood particle board". It is generally used for customizing the main body of cabinets on carpentry sites, and it has good moisture resistance and stable structure, so I also prefer to use it as the cabinet body for cabinets and bathroom cabinets.

4. Ousong board

Ousong board, also known as "oriented structure particle board", strictly belongs to the category of solid wood particle board, but its manufacturing process is more excellent than that of ordinary solid wood particle board, which makes it have a super nail holding ability that ordinary boards cannot match; In addition, the adhesive used is generally MDI adhesive that does not contain formaldehyde, and its environmental performance is also higher than other ordinary wood-based panels.

At present, many households have replaced the multi-layer boards originally made by woodworking with European pine boards for decoration, but their surface is rougher than other artificial boards and the price is slightly higher.

5. Ecological board

Ecological board, also known as paintless board, cannot actually be considered as a substrate!

It is actually like steamed buns, a "complete body" consisting of a "substrate+melamine impregnated paper veneer" board, and this substrate can be different, including multi-layer boards, large core boards, density boards, particle boards, or European pine boards (similar to buns with different fillings, depending on personal preferences and prices).

3、 What are the board finishes available?

The veneer of the board mainly includes "melamine veneer, PVC film veneer, baking paint veneer, solid wood veneer veneer, paint veneer", etc.

In addition, the addition of other veneers does not result in a large market share of melamine coated adhesive paper; Currently, melamine boards are commonly used for cabinets; The cabinet door can have all the necessary finishes to choose from, mainly considering the price issue caused by different finishes.

Alright, that's all for today's topic of how to choose boards. Common ones are just the above. The commonly used paintless board (substrate+finish) can also be easily selected as long as the skin and filling are sorted out. In addition, environmental protection also needs to be focused on. It is recommended to choose boards with higher environmental protection levels when choosing, and it is best to have a certain ventilation period after decoration, Don't rush to check in!
